Valentine's Day: Effect of Acculturation

It’s the age of globalization and the world has been changing as a small village. The development of IT has providing us limitless opportunities to broaden our knowledge and skills. None of us are far since we can see and talk them regularly. Yes I am not only talking about the globalization and its opportunities and advantages, I am talking about the process of socialization and   acculturation in our country.
Socialization is the means by which human infants begin to acquire the skills necessary to perform as a functioning member of their society, and are the most influential learning processes one can experience (Billingham, M. , 2007).
Acculturation explains the process of cultural and psychological change that results following meeting between cultures (Sam, D.L. & Berry, J.W. 2010).
The process of socialization has grown up and we have learnt various behavious in our community. As we grown up the effect of acculturation will be proved as dominant factors motivating us to follow the cultures of others. It’s true that we have to modify and improve the unnecessary and superstitions in our community but while doing this we have to think about the strengths. Though we are not in the high position of Happiness Index. The social capital which we had earlier has been deteriorating which has made us more individualistic.  Today I want to focus on the effect of Valentine’s Day in our country. The famous social networking site has loaded with various cards and status of Valentine’s Day.  Everywhere it is being talked, planned and scheduled for Valentine’s Day.  I would like to ask that how many of us know Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Obviously various of us are frustrated with the nation and the national day has been shadowed. But why we are just converting the term ‘Love’ in such a narrow sense.  The   effect of Valentine’s Day clearly portraits the vivid picture about the rate of acculturation in Nepal.  Acculturation itself is not a big issue but we people who are following brainlessly such kind of cultures will obviously harm us.
